Get A Health Jolt With Black Currants

Sometimes called, “The Forbidden Fruit” because it was banned in the early 1900s for fear it might spread a rare type of tree disease, Black Currants were given a full “pardon” and cultivation began again in 2003.

Truly delicious and healthy, they are extremely high in antioxidants such as the polyphenols anthocyanins which have been shown to help prevent various types of degenerative diseases, such as heart disease and cancer, as well as slow down the aging process and protect the body’s vision and neurological functions. The black currant has twice the antioxidants of blueberries, four times the amount of vitamin C found in oranges, as well as more potassium than bananas.

Overall, black currants have been proven to have health benefits including:

Anti-Inflammatory Action

Powerful Anti-oxidant Action

Maybe help prevent cancer

Reduces the effects of arthritis

There are many ways to enjoy Black Currants and we suggest visiting (great name, right?) for ideas and additional information. This site is the brainchild of Greg Quinn who was a driving force in removing the ban against Black Currants by demonstrating that they could be grown safely and in harmony with all other plant species.  Try them with champagne . . . my personal favorite!
