Eating Healthy – What’s The Latest?

If you are looking to save money on your grocery bill, you might want to re-think the importance of the “Organic” label.  These foods are usually higher-priced but have no special nutrient content benefits according to a review of scientific literature commissioned by Britain’s Food Standards Agency.  They stated that, “Our review is there is currently no evidence to support the selection of organically over conventionally prepared foods on the basis of nutritional superiority.” These researchers did not address questions of pesticide or other residues or the environmental impact of different growing techniques.

Another review of evidence conducted this time by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) concerning the artificial sweetener aspartame noted that it is NOT true that the artificial sweetener causes a “rebound” effect that makes you more hungry.  They also discounted the myth that aspartame makes you gain weight. And finally, the ADA debunked stories that aspartame makes you ill, stating that the artificial sweetener “is not associated with adverse effects in the general population.”
