Separate Vacations

Dear Hal,
I have a simple question for you. My lady friend and I have been living together for almost a year and we get along great. But recently the question has come up about taking separate vacations. Is that going to be bad for our relationship?

Dear On the Go,

There is nothing inherently wrong with taking separate vacations as an occasional event. Sure, you still want to go on that spring golf warm-up with your buddies and she probably loves the Spa weekend with the girls. It is part of your individuality and past lives. But a week in Paris or Buenos Aires should be a shared experience and certainly that is a key reason for you two having decided to live together. Hit them long and straight. (And I’ll bet you she will happily jump into bed together as soon as you get back.)
