Movie Review: Silver Linings Playbook

This one might not be on your radar right now, but when the Oscar nominations are announced, it will be.

Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) and Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) give wonderfully understated performances in this slightly off-beat, comedic tale of two “not quite right” individuals whose lives intersect in suburban Pennsylvania.

Pat Solitano (Cooper) moves back with his parents (a great Robert De Niro and Jackie Weaver) following an eight-month stint in a mental hospital. He intends to win back his wife despite the violent outburst that put him away and her restraining order against him.  His plans are complicated when he meets Tiffany (Lawrence), who has some hefty baggage of her own.

Although my plot synopsis may sound grim, trust me when I say that I laughed a lot and my lady friend got misty at just the right moments in this delightful film. Look for both stars on the Academy Award red carpet as they hit all the right notes, and I would not be surprised if De Niro gets a nod for Best Supporting Actor as well.
