Adult Summer Drinks

First of all, we use the word “adult” because we assume you know that alcoholic beverages are NOT a way to stay hydrated during the hot weather.  In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

But if you are comfortably air-conditioned and looking for some twists on the usual summer drinks with vodka, gin, and tequila, how about these:

Ketel One Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. Ketel One Citroen Vodka
  • 2 1/2 oz. fresh lemonade
  • 1 piece lemon wheel

Directions:

  1. Shake vodka and lemonade with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Strain into ice-filled highball glass.
  3. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Cuban Tanqueray & Tonic

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 oz. Tanqueray® London Dry Gin
  • 3 oz. tonic water
  • 1/2 oz. lime juice
  • 5 oz. simple syrup
  • 1 lime slice wedge
  • 4 mint leaves

Directions:

  1. Muddle mint leaves at the bottom of a collins glass and pull the essential oils up around the sides of the glass.
  2. Add Tanqueray London Dry Gin and fresh lime juice.
  3. Top with tonic and garnish with a mint sprig.

Watermelon Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. Don Julio® Blanco Tequila
  • 1/2 oz. lime juice
  • 1/4 oz. agave syrup
  • 1 watermelon slice

Directions:

  1. Muddle watermelon and agave syrup, add rest of ingredients, and shake well.
  2. Double strain into a frozen martini glass.
  3. Garnish with a watermelon slice.

We know there are some of you out there who mix their drinks with diet soda.  When alcohol is combined with an artificially sweetened drink, it can deliver a bigger buzz than when partnered with a sugared one. A small study revealed that the highest blood alcohol levels were reached when vodka was mixed with diet soda versus regular soda or a placebo. The possible reason is that regular soda slowed the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.

No matter how you enjoy it, please do so responsibly.  We want you with us for many more years to come.
